HRES Winter Weather Plan: Remote Learning Details

Posted Date: 01/23/26 (10:00 AM)

Dear HRES Families,

The district is closely monitoring the potential for a winter storm this weekend, which may impact our school schedule next week. To help everyone be prepared, we want to share important information about Remote Learning in the event it is needed.

Remote Learning Choice Boards
Today, students are bringing home Remote Learning Choice Boards. Each student will receive one math choice board and one reading choice board, printed front and back, so please be sure to check both sides.

👉 Please note: Students should NOT complete any items on the choice boards unless we officially have a Remote Learning Day. This will be clearly communicated through ParentSquare, our school website, and social media.

Accessing the HRES Remote Learning Plan
More details about the HRES Remote Learning Plan can be found here:
https://hires.cabarrus.k12.nc.us/remotelearningpage

This page also includes digital copies of the choice boards, which is helpful if a board is misplaced or if any printed images are hard to read.

Attendance Expectations

  • Grades K–4: Students must complete two boxes on each choice board per Remote Learning Day. They will have up to five school days after returning to school to complete their assignments and still be counted present.
  • Grade 5: Fifth grade students must log in to each of their teachers’ Canvas courses and complete assigned work to be counted present. Choice boards will also be sent home for 5th grade, but these are optional enrichment activities. If internet or power access is limited, 5th grade students will have up to five school days after returning to school to complete assignments and still be counted present.

Encore Activities
If power and internet access allow, students may explore Encore activities through:

  • Ms. Suther’s STEAM Canvas page

  • Ms. Collison’s, Ms. Woodall’s, or Ms. Shulman’s Clever pages

Weather-Related Schedule Changes
Parents are encouraged to review the ParentSquare message titled “Understanding Weather-Related Schedule Changes in CCS,” sent Wednesday evening. This message explains the difference between a No School Day using Banked Hours and a Remote Learning Day.

If you have any questions, your child’s teacher(s) will be available via email or ParentSquare.

Thank you for your continued support and flexibility as we prepare for possible weather-related changes.
